Lost Eden

I’ve been in love with this Lost Eden game for ages, I listen to the soundtrack every day, almost. I had an old blog where I explained what the game was all about in detail, but now it’s gone and I can’t be bothered to explain in detail again… but here’s a short summary.

Developer: Cryo Interactive
Publisher: Virgin Interactive
Year: 1996
Software Copyright: Cryo Interactive
Theme: Alternate History, Fantasy

“Palaeontologists and scientists alike have researched the existence of the dinosaurs. From time to time, it has been theorized and speculated about what would have happened if man and dinosaur had co-existed on the earth. Lost Eden, an ambitious title from Cryo Interactive, sets out to put this question to rest and to theorize on why the dinosaurs disappeared.”The Home of the Underdogs

You play Prince Adam of Mo in a post-apocalyptic pre-historical/alternate historic point-and-click surrounding. Most of the humans have been taken by ‘the tyrant’ and you live with your father, enclosed in your citadel of safety; the Citadel of Mo.

Your father, King Gregor’s biggest fear is the Tyrant coming to take over the Citadel, moreso you, as he claims both your sister and your mother were taken and he is confident that most of humanity has now died out due to the Tyrant. Your main desire is to venture finally out of the citadel you’ve been enclosed in for all of your life and give the world the hope that your ancestor; Graa once gave to the world the last time that the Tyrant took over. Your father holds the spirit much like that of ‘The Enslaver’, your grand father, who hated dinosaurs and refused to unite his race with theirs to battle against the Tyrant.
With enough pining and persuading you eventually convince your father that you are the only hope for the human race, for you are brave and after all carry the blood of Graa. Your father insists that you take Thug, his palace guard and his right-hand… dinosaur; Eloi, a wise Pterodactyl with you on your quest…

And so, the story begins.

Within the game you meet many friends of which are confident that you will save Pangaea from the suffering. Together you all travel accross Pangaea and use your musical and persuasive talents to romance and convince other races of dinosaurs and humans to form armies and vast citadels using your well-rounded knowlege and their powers of force and hope. You are soon within the game known as ‘the one who brings us hope’.

There is also a suggestive sexual interaction between you, Prince Adam and a human character called Eve. You couldn’t stress human die-out more than that. There is also an obvious moral that ‘the Tyrant’ is actually an embodiment of war, greed and ignorance in the world today… and the Tyrant is actually free due to the human king bringing it back to life (AKA, The Enslaver). It makes it out to be almost easy for all the races to unite against the Tyrant in this game, which is far from the truth with the case in real life.

Queen Shazia

Queen Shazia

You also meet an interesting character called Shazia, a war Queen from a far land which to her self description, you both find that you are in fact siblings. Shazia was formerly known as Jelana, and she was the sister that your father always spoke of being dead…
With a special instrument of Shazia’s you find yourself knowing more that you could have ever imagined, and with this knowledge it is up to you to defeat the tyrant.

The soundtrack owns.
